DIY: Make A Homemade Moisturizer
Developing a homemade moisturizer from natural ingredients allows you to enjoy a moment of softness while respecting the environment. For the face or body, here are simple but effective recipes to take care of yourself. Vegetable oil, essential oil, or hydrolat, are all the elements to know.
Moisturizing Cream Recipe, Whipped
Ingredients
A portion of vegetable butter (shea, cocoa, mango, etc.)
A portion of coconut oil
1/2 part oil, chosen according to the desired properties
Optional: a few drops of essential oils
Optional: a natural preservative (vitamin E, wheat germ or olive oil, etc.)
Note: The recipe indicates portion measurements. It's up to you to choose the volume of each portion depending on the amount of product you want to make. To do a test, a serving can correspond to a tablespoon. To have a large quantity go with a cup. It is according to your need. It is not necessary to make a ton of it, just prepare what is necessary. This is the idea behind my choice to put portions and not ml, gr or cups.
Preparation
Melt the butter and the coconut oil (skip this step if the coconut oil is liquid and if it is very hot)
Mix evenly
Add the other ingredients
Leave to harden in the refrigerator (about 30 minutes)
Whisk, like mayonnaise,
Put in a pretty jar
Duration of preparation: 10 minutes + the time needed to set it in the fridge.
No need to keep the cream in the fridge, it can stay in the bathroom cabinet or within easy reach on the bedside table.
Personal Notes
Depending on the ambient temperature, the texture of the cream may not be that of whipped cream. This is the case during the summer season. If your coconut oil is runny when you prepare it, it's too hot to get a thick consistency. I advise you to mix all the ingredients without melting them. On the other hand, your drummer will work a little more.
As for me, I don't add preservatives, I tend to finish the jar very quickly. But if it is to offer, it is better to add some. I think it is best to use it during the year.
I do not include essential oils, because I like the smell of coconut oil. In addition, in the morning, my nose is not fond of smells. Like me, he needs to get up gently.
In my recipe, one serving is 30 grams, which is enough to fit in a small 125ml jar.
You are free to use a portion of 50 grams, as the original recipe suggests, or to double it if you want to make beautiful gifts.
I use organic products, by conviction, but good vegetable oils are an interesting choice and within everyone's reach.
Interesting associations
If you want a neutral smell, opt for butter and deodorized coconut oil, as well as a neutral oil such as sweet almond, grapeseed oil or castor oil.
Here are other successful mixes
The simplest version, made with easy-to-find ingredients, consists of shea butter, coconut oil and olive oil.
For a gourmet cream with a delicious smell: Cocoa butter (not deodorized), coconut oil (not deodorized) and hazelnut oil.
An ultra-rich version, for very dry skin or just to pamper yourself: Shea butter, coconut oil, avocado oil.
For an anti-wrinkle effect: Shea butter, coconut oil, argan.
Sensitive skin, I don't recommend coconut oil, which tends to be denser. It is best to use a vegetable oil alone, such as: apricot kernel, argan, jojoba or rosehip oil.
Finally, for oily skin, mango butter, with coconut oil and grapeseed oil makes an excellent mix.
It's up to you to choose your favorite essential oil. In my case, my favorites all those reminiscent of citrus fruits (orange, lime, lemon, grapefruit…).
Please note: citrus essential oils are photosensitive, it is best to use them for night care.
Also, avoid the use of essential oils with children and pregnant women.
There you have it, a little homemade project, to have fun or to offer. Opt for healthy and natural products it is possible. Remember, it is important to hydrate your skin from the outside, but also from the inside, by drinking plenty of water.
